This is a glossary to many of the descriptive terms used about the materials in our products.
Corte - A peddle-loom woven fabric usually used for women's skirts. Usually dark blue or black.
Huipil - Sometimes spelled güipil. The traditional blouse worn by women. The basic fabric is usually hand-woven on a back-strap loom, then hand-embroidered. Every region and/or village has specific fabric and embroidery designs plus what each woman adds of her own personal style.
Jaspe - A peddle-loom woven fabric with a series of faint stripes formed by the arrangement of light, medium, and dark warp yarns or by twisting together 2 yarns of different colors. Usually used for skirts. Often has ikat designs.
