WE DID IT! ON April 26th, 2010, hundreds of Santa Cruz friends and neighbors gathered to celebrate the grand opening of their new Centro de Capacitacion, CECAP. It was an event filled with joy, excitement and community pride! What began as a dream 3 years ago is now a reality for all to see. The building is the work of many Cruceño hands and the hearts of many supporters, and it is beautiful! We are very pleased to announce that Amigos received a grant from Rotary International to purchase the equipment and furnishings for the workshops, kitchen and restaurant. We have already begun equipping the sewing and weaving center and the carpentry shop is state of the art.
The CECAP committee, and Amigos are working on getting our programs up and running as soon as possible. Classes in computer education are on-going since January. Sewing classes will begin in May and our first carpentry class is scheduled to begin in June. The kitchen will be equipped by June and we are hoping to get culinary programs started later this year.
WE are grateful to all or our friends and donors who helped to make this dream come true. We have a lot of work to do and continue to need your energy and support to make CECAP a success. For more photos of the CECAP opening, please visit our website and click on Photo Gallery.
